Havana

Havana is definitely crazy city, city of difference, of many influences, city full of old cars and narrow streets. I enjoyed every part of this place.

On the other side of rainbow! Ingleton

Have you ever visited Ingleton? If you will go there, Im pretty sure, you will absolutely love it.

The village of Ingleton is surrounded by breath-taking countryside, including mountains, waterfalls and caves.  Waterfall’s Walk is a scenic route, for me – just like a magic land on the other side of rainbow.

The 8 miles of walking wasnt the easiest thing  in my life. I get used to sitting 9 hours in office, so for my short, little legs it was like climbing Kilimanjaro. I’ve got a feeling, that even the sheep were staring at me with the compassion. :)

I didnt prepare myself for this kind of trip. Like typical woman, I was more concentrated on the nice look, than choosing the right, tracking shoes. The rocks was slippery, so there was huge possibility to finish in the river (I must add – FREEZING river).

I was quite proud of myself, cos I managed to climb on the rocks and to went under the huge waterfall. I was only able to do it without my fancy shoes, but it definitely wasnt massage for my bare feet.  Honestly – on next the day I was dying… but it was worth it!

There is no point to sitting home when the Spring is already here!

Roll on Spring and sunny weekends. I start my explorations :)

Masai Style of Life

We are living in society where all the time we are chasing after something, and not really often we feel satisfied and … just happy… This is the reason when I think everyone in his life, at least ones, should visit Africa and learn a little bit of people living there. Simple life, without a rush, and huge joie de vivre…

A visit to a Masai village was one of the most thought experiences I have ever had. The time seems to stopped in this place and it was difficult to believe its still 21st century.

People there wore very colourful clothes. he men are famous for wearing a red-checked shuka (Masai blanket). For Masai, red clothing stands for power. When males become warriors, around age 14, they traditionally dye their hair red with ochre and fat.

The huts were small and square, made of combination of mud, dung and sticks. I looked inside and I saw tiny dark kitchen with a hole in the wall, as a window. The flies were everywhere. In the second room, on the hard cowhide, the small masai child was sheltering from harsh sun. He even didn’t notice guest in his house.

After that men from the village performed traditional masai dance, and the women were helping in singing. I couldn’t refrain myself from joining. Dancing with the masai people, thousand kilometres form my home, in wild Africa, it was something which I can’t describe in words! From different parts of village I saw running children, who heard the music and wanted to join. The company of Europeans always makes them excited.

When they finished dancing they demonstrated the building of a fire without matches. It was clearly an exhausting process. I was trying as well but instead of fire I only felt burning on my hands, when I took turns spinning the rod. I definitely prefer using a matches, because I cant imagine making a dinner everyday, and starting this process in masai way of making fire. In Europe we get used to fast life, nobody have got time for building fire, for dancing for hour in the middle of the day or just chilling and singing.

I bought some sweets for masai children, so for a moment I felt like a the most important person in this village. All happy faces surrounded me, they were touching my hair, cuddling, holding my hands and smiling when I was making a pictures. In your life there are couple of this magic moments, when you realize life is a gift. It was one of this moments for me!

And then I understood that this kind of life, simple, without electricity, without rat race, in the heart of Africa, can be so wonderful and maybe we should try to find simple reasons to be happy in our life. Just like a sweets in life of Masai Children.

“Woman-at-the-wheel”.

There is a lot opinions about who is better driver – man or woman… So I did experiment and I bought a car. Auto I’ve already knew Im crap driver, but I think you can learn something only when you keep trying…
So I was keep trying… lol
My first ride on english roads was terrible. Driving on the left side of the road was even harder then I’ve thought. Besides it was quite difficult for me to stay concentrated on many thing in one time: watching the mirrors, changing gears, holding steering heels and trying not to hit anybody.
After few day of  “learning process” I’ve felt even comfortable (maybe i shouldnt).
Now there is 3 moths of driving after me. And during this time I’ve already had car accident (surprisingly – it wasn’t my fault Wink), got Speeding Ticket, and on last Friday when I was trying to reverse from car park I made some “stylish” scratches on my car and car, which stand next to me. So my car doesnt look as good as it was before i’ve bought it. My bank account as well, cos I paid 60 pounds penalty fine.
Im not planning to stop driving… cos I really enjoy it and I still believe one day I will be better driver, but as a woman I think Im not created to do it!!! Smile Maybe other women will be mad at me, that I admit men are definitely better drivers.  For us, women, on the road still more important is watching the sales in the shops, staring in the mirror to check if there is everything all right with our make – up and singing everytime when we hear nice song in the radio…
And when we are buying car the most important thing is… COLOUR… lol
The only season when guys had a problem with concentration is summer – too many tanned girls in shorts on pedestrians road,s so for many men is a challenge driving in this “adverse” circumstances!

But I definitely cant generalize – Im sure there is a lot of “women-at-the-wheel” who are excellent drivers… Open-mouthed (not like me)

“There are two things no man will admit he cannot do well: drive and make love.”
